It all started late in 2003 when the upcoming president of Metro Atlanta Winnies asked me “Do you think that we could have a web site for the club?”. Soon after we launched the test site for Metro, I got similar requests from the Presidents of Gone with the Winnies and the State.
The sites for Georgia Winnie Rebels, Metro Atlanta Winnies, and Gone With The Winnies were all running by January of 2004. The intent of the sites was to get information to our members and potential new members. We show a copy of each month’s newsletter and any announcements, but since a picture is worth a thousand words we have pictures.
We have the past month’s pictures on each of the sites, and we link to our pages of pictures of past State Rallies and GNRs. We also have pages to promote upcoming Rallies.
In 2006 members started to contribute their own pictures for the site. This gives more than one view of what is happening.
In 2007 we have added archived newsletters including pictures of that month’s events. We have also added short movie clips of entertainment from our rallies and meetings.
We have been honored to receive the following awards form the GNR Web Site Contest. 2004 GAWIT.COM - Honorable Mention. 2004 GWTW.GAWIT.COM - Honorable Mention. 2004 Atlantawinnies.GAWIT.COM - Honorable Mention. 2005 GAWIT.COM - First Place State clubs. 2005 GWTW.GAWIT.COM - Third Place Local Chapters. 2005 Atlantawinnies.GAWIT.COM - Third Place, Local Chapters. 2006 GWTW.GAWIT.COM - Honorable Mention. 2006 Atlantawinnies.GAWIT.COM - Honorable Mention. 2007 GAWIT.COM - First place State Clubs. 2007 GWTW.GAWIT.COM - Third place Local Chapters. 2007 Atlantawinnies.GAWIT.COM - Tied for First Place Local Chapters.
The most important award has been when members come up to me and say “I enjoyed looking at the pictures”.
In 2008 I have changed the newsletter archives to be Acrobat PDF files that are easier to read and print. All of the forms for membership and rallies will be PDF also. We have a few more members taking pictures this year so there will be more variety.
